How to Properly Care for your Bridal Gown

As we enter wedding season, love it in the air! After you say I DO the one you want to spend the rest of your life with, it’s time to say I DO to the dress! The special memories that come with your wedding gown, earn it the right to be cared for in the best possible way.

Check out some of our tips for proper care of your precious gown:

  • Hang your gown by the loops inside your dress that are connected to the sturdy side seams.  No loops? No problem: make some from ribbon and sew them onto the side seams of your wedding gown.
  • Avoid storing your gown in a plastic bag. Plastic bags emit fumes that can yellow your bridal gown.
  • Don’t store your wedding gown in a vacuum-sealed, shrink-wrapped container. They can trap moisture that can mildew your wedding gown and wrinkles do not press out of a wedding gown that has been shrink-wrapped.
  • Ask your cleaner what precautions they take protect delicate trims and embellishments on your wedding gown and how they plan to guard against latent stains.
  • Avoid storing your bridal gown in the attic or basement where major changes in temperature or humidity can occur.  Also, avoid resting your wedding gown chest against the outside wall because dampness can migrate through the wall and penetrate the wedding chest.
