Giving back to the community has been an intrical part of Fabricare Cleaner’s culture since they opened 30+ years ago in Fairfield County. Whether it’s participating in a community fundraiser, sponsoring local charity events, purchasing ad space in local sports team programs or working to donate items to those in need, they are always looking for new ways to support Fairfield County and those who live here.
In recent years, Fabricare launched a program called “FAB LOVE”. This movement helps to empower individuals within our community by providing them with the professional attire and other clothing needed to excel in the workplace and community. What many may not realize is that many of our neighbors are struggling to make ends meet. There are people across Fairfield County who are dealing with financial hardships, and even homelessness and housing insecurity.
FAB LOVE helps men & women starting new jobs, couples striving to get over a budget speed bump, parents returning to the workforce, veterans returning to civilian life and beyond. Fabricare provides items that have been donated, then REFABBED: dry cleaned and repaired of any tears. The Fab treatment makes it cool for the clothing recipients and donors alike to participate in sensible reuse of items and protecting the plant from unnecessary waste.
One of the charities Fabricare partners with is OPEN DOORS. Open Doors is a homelessness and housing service organization in Norwalk that has been providing support for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness since 1983. These resources include critical needs like food, clothing, case management, employment services and continuing education, and access to health services as well as affordable and supportive housing and emergency shelter.
Fabricare has helped to provide clothing to Open Doors’ “community closet” — a free store of clothing, shoes, and other necessities made possible through such donations; everything from the clothing to the hangers to the shopping bags are donated.
“It means so much when our community comes together to support our neighbors who are struggling during these particularly difficult times. Everyone at Open Doors is grateful for companies like Fabricare who give back to the community. There are so many ways to make a difference, and we love to talk with people about ways to get involved!” – Michele Conderino, the Executive Director at Open Doors
This year is even more important than ever to help those struggling in our community with a step up due to the impacts of COVID. If you want to help Fabricare spread FAB LOVE, it’s so simple:
- Bring your items (clothing, coats, unused socks, shoes, handbags, wallets, etc) to any Fabricare locations OR a Fabricare driver can pick them up. Schedule pick up at service@fabricarecleaners.net or call 203-229-0001.
- All items will be sorted and REFABBED by Fabricare.
- The refurbished clothing will be given to individuals in need of a step up.
If you’d like to further get involved with OPEN DOORS in ways beyond clothing donations, shelf-stable food are a huge help including:
- peanut butter
- jelly (grape or strawberry)
- canned tuna
- dried black or red beans
- spaghetti sauce
- canned vegetables
- reusable grocery bag
- Reusable MASKS
Or you can hold a donation drive or volunteer at Open Doors! It takes the support of our community members coming together in small and large ways to make it possible. You can learn more about OPEN DOORS and how you can get involved by emailing info@opendoorshelter.org or calling 203-866-1057.
